What do you do at Gayton?
I am responsible for being the spiritual leader, guiding Gayton Baptist to function as a New Testament church. My goal is to serve God and His Kingdom as He has called me, to be the presence of Christ in the community and congregation, to encourage and foster missional engagement in the local church, and to create space for others to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
When did you first come to Gayton and/or when did you join the staff?

Tell us a little about your family and/or pets.
Annie and I met at the University of Richmond and have been married for 29 years. Annie is a Program Director with YMCA Youth Development. We are blessed with two children - Nathan works for the USPS and Mary is pursuing a PhD in Environmental Science at Syracuse University. We have one cat who loves Annie and follows her everywhere, and occasionally acknowledges me when she is hungry.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at Gayton?
One of my greatest joys is to be outside, whether it is in the yard or out in the wilderness. I am currently 12 years into hiking the Appalachian Trail, and hope to finish the last 550 miles in the next few years! I also enjoy disc golf and finding ways to better my local neighborhood.
What is one of your favorite things?
I love German food, and I also enjoy any opportunity to go to the food festivals here in Richmond. Additionally, the James River holds a special place in my heart as it is the place I was when I heard God's call to ministry, and most of my life has been spent within miles of the James.
What is your favorite Scripture verse or passage?
John 10:10 because Jesus offers a full and abundant life NOW!
2 Peter 3:18 as it captures the essence of our calling to continue and grow in faith throughout our lifetime.
