Here at Gayton Baptist, we have a heart in Christ “to be disciples who make disciples of all generations.” A Christian disciple is a follower of Jesus Christ. “To disciple” is to intentionally help others follow Jesus Christ. To be a church with a healthy discipleship climate is more than a program; rather, it is the way we live together in Christ as a church family.
Discipleship is lived out in a variety of contexts:
Discipleship is like a tree that bursts from the seed of having a personal relationship with Jesus and then is nourished by Bible study, prayer, and walking with other Christ-followers. The branches of a healthy “discipleship tree” include Bible studies, small groups, and special affinity gatherings (such as women’s/men’s ministry; student events; senior adult or young adult ministries, etc.). PLUS, it includes using resources for one’s own personal faith growth.
As the church engages with these things, the root system of accountability, mentorship, and connection gets stronger, and the church becomes stronger as a whole, enabling us to extend our branches further into our community and world with the hope and love of Jesus Christ.
